Environment
Day (under national environment awareness campaign 2013-14) was celebrated at
Government Senior Secondary School Bargodam on Thursday 13 Feb 2014. The theme
of program was “Biodiversity conservation”
Addressing
the students, Principal Dr. Gurmukh singh urged the students to be vigilant
and to check illegal activities such as poaching and destruction of
forests. He wanted the students to plant saplings at their homes, educational
institutions and public places make the environment green. He said that
environmental awareness should be initiated to the student’s right from the
primary level. He urged the students to maintain the campus plastic free and to
create a pollution free environment to maintain the quality of life. Pointing
out that Bargodam had a rich environmental heritage, he urged the people to
participate in the conservation initiatives along with the government.
Mr.
Ashok Kumar, Lecturer in Hindi, in his addressing said that ‘Nature is a
teacher’ and urged the students to serve as eco-warriors and ambassadors of
environmental awareness. Mr. Rajbir, Lecturer pol. science, wanted the students
to protect the bio-diversity and maintain a bio-diversity register of the
locality, where they resided. In this function Poem, Poster making and Essay
competition was also organised in which the students actively participated
(mostly girls). A three member jury was constituted of teaching staff who later
on decided the positions of various participants.
